Paris

6/22/087 PM
Well people I’m preparing to go on a trip across the Atlantic Ocean to see a little city. Paris! I have to admit I am very excited. The two things I am most looking forwarding to is touring the Palace and Gardens of Versailles and then being able to go up into the Eiffel tower. I hope I get a good sunset at least one of the nights and hopefully the weather holds out. Stay tuned here for some blogging of my travels with pictures!

Paris!

5/9/089 PM
Wow, I haven’t posted on my site in a while. School has been crazy the last few months. I’m done my classes though and just have finals left to do. So, anyhow lots has been going on. First, I have been considering going for my Masters in Computer Science. I’m not sure yet but I think it would be nice to be able to take additional advanced courses. In other news, for those of you don’t already know I’m going to Paris! I can’t wait, I’ll be going out there for Blizzard’s World Wide Inventational. When I am not having fun at the WWI I have a bunch of places I am going to be visiting.

  • Montparnasse 56 Tower
  • Effiel Tower
  • Trocadéro
  • Arc de Triomphe
  • Les Invaldes
  • Grand Palasce
  • Jardin des Tulieries
  • Louvre
  • Notre Dame
  • Versailes
  • Chateau de Vincennes (Tallest Keep in Europe)
  • Jardin des Plantes
  • Arènes de Lutèce (Roman Gladiatorial Theater)
  • Partheon
  • Le Jardin du Luxembourg

Yeah, it’s going to be awesome! To catch my flight I have to drive five hours up to Montréal, so I am going to have a peak around there as well.

I also am hoping to my it down to New York City for the WCG US Open at the end of this month. That will be fun as well if I can get down to it.

Fork Bomb!

5/10/083 PM
This was just a very funny e-mail that one of my professors sent out. It was reguarding a shell programming assignment we had. I just do not understand how people had so much trouble on this assignment.
Hi:

Please ensure that your shell script handles fork() correctly. Given that you are not using pipes, you should have only 1 child active at a time. A new fork() should only be issued after the current child dies. You should ensure that the parent waits for the child so that the child is removed from the system.

I am enclosing the email I received from CS support:

******************************

Liz:

This is an urgent problem.

Students in cs620 have the potential to bring cisunix systems to their collective knees by issuing too many fork() calls in the homework assignment that is due tomorrow.

This has happened multiple times today.

When a cisunix system hangs because of a high load average, the entire campus is affected.

Since the process limits on cisunix system are very liberal, we suggest that your students use self imposed limits that can be set by the 'limit' (csh, tsh) or 'ulimit' (bash, sh) shell commands.

Whenever a public system is affected by CS courses, people become sensitized to the perpetrators. That is 'us' in this case.

Would you consider emailing instructions to your students currently in CS620 ?
Thanks
Gerry
Gina

Back From Los Angeles

3/1/086 PM
Well, so, Jon and I from GameReplays just got back from Los Angeles California where we had a great time. On Thursday we were able to visit Blizzard’s new Campus and then we dropped by Electronic Art’s Campus on Friday. Unfortunately we can’t really say what we did at Blizzard until the tenth but be sure and drop by GameReplays.org to learn about the trip on the tenth. It was nice to get away from the snow for a little bit. We now have had around 110 inches of snow this season. It’s just crazy. I’m exhausted from the trip but it was awesome. Here are some pictures of Blizzard, EA, and just general LA.

Car

12/22/074 PM
Well, so, I had to get an inspection for my 115,000 mile Chevy Cavalier today and not so much to my surprise, it failed. It would have been $700 to fix it so that it would pass inspection, and then there was a gasket problem, which would have been at least $1,750 more, so I decided it was time to get a new car. Anyhow, so I have two top choices. I can go with the Toyota Yaris 3 door hatch back or I can go with the Honda fit 4-door sedan. I sorta like the outside of the Yaris more but I like the inside of the fit more. Hmm, decisions, decisions. Here are pictures of both the cars. Yaris

Something funny.

11/29/077 AM
I just can't resist posting this. It's very funny to say the least.
The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese!
The one point I must make though is a smart mouse gets the cheese first, without the consequences. ;)
